Building Business Apps: The Best Platforms for Small Businesses in 2026

Six platforms for building business apps compared on self-serve vs managed, backend depth and pricing: Jestor, Glide, Bubble, Retool, AgentUI and Greta.sh.

Building Business Apps: The Best Platforms for Small Businesses in 2026
ByHiteshi SoniΒ· Marketer, Questera

For building business apps without a developer, pick by how hands-on you want to be: Jestor for an operations workspace with flat unlimited-user pricing, Glide for simple apps over your team's data, Bubble for full drag-and-drop control over a custom web app, Retool if a developer will build internal tools on your existing databases, and AgentUI if you want a managed service with a human team behind the AI. If you want one custom app (a CRM, booking flow and invoicing view in one place) generated from a plain-English description, an AI app builder like Greta.sh builds the frontend, backend and database together. Prices below are as of October 2026.

Most small businesses don't set out to build software. They set out to stop copying customer details between four tools.

How we compared

We compared six platforms on four things: self-serve or managed (does a human team build or support the app for you), backend depth (a real database with logins and permissions, or a front end over a spreadsheet), what you need to know to get a first version live, and how pricing scales. Prices come from each vendor's own pricing page and documentation, checked on October 12, 2026, with the billing basis each vendor states. Confirm before you budget.

What counts as a "business app"?

A business app is software that runs one of your recurring processes, with your data and your rules. For a small business it's usually one of these:

  • A CRM: contacts, deals, follow-ups and who said what.
  • Booking and scheduling: customers pick a slot, staff see their day.
  • Invoicing and quotes: turn a job into a document and track whether it's paid.
  • Inventory: stock counts, reorder points, which location holds what.
  • A client portal: customers log in to see orders, files or project status.
  • Approval workflows: purchase requests, time off, refunds.

Why small businesses end up stacking 5+ SaaS tools

Nobody plans a stack of six subscriptions. It arrives one sensible decision at a time: a CRM for the pipeline, a booking tool because customers kept phoning, an invoicing app because the accountant asked. Then an automation tool to copy data between them, because none of them talk to each other the way you need.

Together they create three problems. You pay per seat several times over for the same people. Your customer record lives in four places and none is fully right. And the process that makes you money, the hand-off from booking to job to invoice, sits in the gaps where no software owns it.

Our stack-shift story on SaaS sprawl covers which tools are worth replacing. Short version: keep the deep, regulated ones (accounting, payroll) and replace the thin ones that mostly hold your own data in a shape that doesn't fit you.

The 6 best platforms for building business apps

1. Jestor – an operations workspace with flat pricing for big teams

Jestor combines databases, apps, automations, tasks and docs, and you build custom apps with help from AI. Free covers 10 users with tasks, docs, chat and 5 AI apps. Growth is $15 per user per month, or $200 a month for unlimited users, adding OCR, low-code and roles (1,500 runs and 3,000 records per table). Pro is $30 per user per month, or $500 a month for unlimited users, adding AI agents, a WhatsApp agent and MCP access. Above Pro, the Endure Operations tier is done-for-you: Jestor's forward-deployed engineers build the apps, automations and AI agents.

Who it's for: ops-heavy teams with many occasional users, where a flat price beats paying per head. Limits: apps live inside Jestor's workspace; its FAQ says data exports by CSV and API, but the app stays on the platform.

2. Glide – simple apps your team will actually open

Glide, now built on what it calls GlideOS, turns your data into apps and workflows. Free covers 2 team members and 10 projects but no published apps. Basic is $25 a month (100 credits, 2 published apps), Plus $50 a month (250 credits, 5 published apps, public apps) and Pro $125 a month, starting at 5 team members, with unlimited published apps.

Who it's for: small teams that need a field app or an inventory checker fast. Limits: credits meter usage, published apps are capped below Pro, and heavy multi-step logic isn't its strength.

3. Bubble – full control over a custom web app

Bubble is the most complete visual builder here: you design pages, define a database and wire logic with workflows, and it now builds native iOS and Android apps too. The Free web plan gives 50,000 workload units a month and a development version only, so you can't go live on it. Starter is $29 a month billed annually and adds a live site and custom domain. Growth is $119 a month billed annually (2 app editors), and Team $349 a month billed annually (5 editors).

Who it's for: founders willing to learn a real tool in exchange for building almost anything, customer-facing apps included. Limits: workload is usage-based, so a busy app can outgrow its plan, and the app runs on Bubble rather than as code you take elsewhere.

4. Retool – internal tools built by developers

Retool is built for developers: drag components onto a canvas, then connect them to your databases and APIs. Free covers up to 5 users. Team is $10 per builder plus $5 per internal user per month, billed annually. Business is $50 per builder plus $15 per internal user per month, billed annually, and adds external users and embedded apps.

Who it's for: businesses with data already in a database or API, plus someone comfortable with SQL. Limits: a poor fit if nobody writes queries. Our Greta.sh vs Retool comparison covers when each wins for a team with no engineers.

5. AgentUI – AI building with a human team behind it

AgentUI is an AI builder for internal tools (dashboards, inventory, approvals) that sells itself on the people behind it. Its FAQ calls it "a managed platform built for operations teams" that builds, hosts, secures and supports your tools, and it offers free white-glove onboarding. On the pricing page, Free has pay-as-you-go AI credits at $0.30 each (1 team member, 3 projects). Solo is $22.50 a month billed yearly (90 credits), Builder $45 a month billed yearly (200 credits, 2 team members) and Team $88 a month billed yearly (400 credits, 10 internal users, unlimited apps). AgentUI says credits are mostly used while building, not while the app runs.

Who it's for: owners who want someone to make sure the tool works. Limits: tight project and user caps on lower plans, and you're buying a managed platform, not code you own.

6. Greta.sh – one custom full-stack app from a description

Greta.sh is an AI app builder: describe the app in plain English and it builds a full-stack web app with the database, authentication and payments built in, plus one-click deploy. You can read the code on every plan, edit it from Starter, and sync it to your own GitHub repo on Pro. Pricing: Free is 5 credits a day with a code viewer and no deployment. Starter is $5 a month on the welcome offer (normally $20 a month) with 100 credits, deployment and a custom domain. Pro is $20 a month on the welcome offer (normally $50 a month) with 250 credits, adding the Database feature, GitHub version control and team management. Business is $200 a month.

Who it's for: a business that wants one app shaped around its process rather than a workspace of modules. Limits: it builds web apps, not native app-store apps; you own what you ship, including keeping it working; and it doesn't replace accounting or payroll software.

How to choose

Start with how much of the work you want to do yourself.

You want someone else involved. AgentUI pairs AI with human support; Jestor's top tier has its engineers build for you.

You want drag-and-drop control. Bubble if the app is complex or customer-facing, Glide if it's simple.

You have data and a developer. Retool, priced per builder so a large read-mostly staff stays cheap.

You want one custom app built from a prompt. Greta.sh. For more AI-first options, see our best AI app builders for internal tools and dashboards, and if the app also faces customers, Greta.sh vs Softr.

Greta.sh

Got an idea? Build it now!

Just start with a simple prompt. No coding required: Greta.sh turns your idea into a working app in minutes.

Why Greta.sh stands out

It comes down to what one description produces. Greta.sh builds the interface, backend and database together and deploys it, so a CRM, booking flow and invoice view can be one app instead of three modules glued together. No separate backend to wire up, no extra subscription when you need a booking page next to your CRM.

It's self-serve on the standard plans: you describe, test and ship. That cuts both ways. If you want a human team to own the outcome, AgentUI or Jestor's done-for-you tier is the honest better fit. If you want control and a fixed monthly cost instead of a services relationship, building it yourself wins. Greta.sh's internal tools page shows what teams build this way.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most affordable AI app builder for small business owners?

Among these platforms, Greta.sh's Starter plan is $5 a month on the welcome offer (normally $20 a month) and includes deployment and a custom domain. AgentUI's Solo plan is $22.50 a month billed yearly. Jestor, Glide and Bubble have free plans, but Glide's free plan can't publish apps and Bubble's can't go live. Compare the plan you'll need to launch, not the free tier.

What is the best platform for building a customer booking app?

If booking feeds into jobs and invoices, Greta.sh or Bubble, since both handle a real database and customer logins. For a simple internal staff schedule, Glide is quicker. If booking is all you need, a dedicated scheduling tool may be enough.

How can I build an internal CRM without coding?

Write down the records you track (contacts, companies, deals), the stages a deal moves through and who can see what, then describe that to an AI builder. Greta.sh generates the CRM from that description, and AgentUI lists a sales CRM among the tools it builds. Our Salesforce alternatives guide covers when buying a CRM makes more sense.

What is the best platform for custom workflow tools?

For workflows that sit next to tasks, docs and automations in one workspace, Jestor. For developer-built workflows on existing databases, Retool. For a workflow app shaped entirely around your process, Greta.sh.

Can you build custom business apps with no code?

Yes, with Jestor, Glide, Bubble, AgentUI or Greta.sh. Retool is the exception: it expects SQL and some JavaScript. The real test is what happens when you need something the platform didn't anticipate; Greta.sh lets you read the code on every plan and edit it from Starter.

Build the app that matches the business

The cheapest stack is the one with the fewest places your customer data lives. Build the one app that removes the most copy-paste, and add the next only once the first is in daily use. If your store is the bigger headache, our Shopify alternatives guide asks the same build-or-rent question.
