Own the Stack Instead of Renting It
Every commercial app in a typical stack is another subscription and another place your data lives on someone else's terms. This field guide lists nine open-source repos that cover the same ground β creative tools, voice, SEO, workspace, dictation, project management, scheduling, support and screen recording β most of them self-hostable and free.
The Nine Repos
- Open Higgsfield β a self-hosted AI image and video studio that generates across many models from one workspace, in place of Higgsfield. Bring your own model API keys.
- VoiceStudio β a fully local voice suite for cloning your voice, audiobooks, transcription and dubbing, in place of ElevenLabs. No cloud, no keys.
- OpenSEO β self-hosted rank tracking, backlinks and site audits, with an MCP so your AI agent can use the data directly, in place of Semrush. It needs a pay-as-you-go DataForSEO key.
- AppFlowy β a local-first workspace for docs, databases and boards, with AI that can run on local models, in place of Notion.
- OpenWhispr β privacy-first dictation: hit a hotkey, speak, and it pastes into any app, running offline or in the cloud, in place of Wispr Flow.
- OpenProject β full project management with tasks, timelines, boards and roadmaps, self-hosted so your team's data stays in-house, in place of Asana.
- Cal.com β open-source scheduling with booking pages, Google and Outlook calendar sync, workflows and team routing, in place of Calendly.
- Chatwoot β an open-source customer-support inbox for every lead and conversation across channels, in place of Intercom.
- Cap β open-source screen recording: record, share a link and keep your footage, in place of Loom.
What to Know Before You Switch
All nine are open source and self-hostable, but a couple need keys of your own: OpenSEO needs a DataForSEO account and Open Higgsfield needs model provider keys. "Open Higgsfield" also exists in several forks; the guide links one canonical repo. Self-hosting means you own the maintenance too, so start with the tools that save you the most.
What's in the Guide
All nine repos, the commercial app each one replaces, which ones need your own API keys, and a direct link to every repo.
