Greta.sh vs Emergent: Which AI App Builder Should Startups Use in 2026?

Emergent (emergent.sh) is, in its own words, "an AI-powered development platform that transforms your ideas into fully functional applications". As of October 2026 it has a free plan with 10 monthly credits, Standard at $20/month (100 credits) and Pro at $200/month (750 credits), and every published app pays a monthly hosting fee in credits, from 50 credits a month on its smallest tier. Greta.sh is also a prompt-to-full-stack builder, priced from a $5/month Starter welcome offer (normally $20/month, 100 credits), with deployment included from Starter and team roles on Pro. Choose Emergent if you need native mobile apps from a prompt or GitHub on the entry plan; choose Greta.sh if you want lower entry pricing, no per-app hosting charge on its pricing page, and a site that keeps working on SEO after launch.

This guide is for startup founders, non-technical creators, product managers, and freelancers who searched for Emergent and want to know what it is, what it costs, and how it compares before choosing. Every Emergent fact below comes from emergent.sh and its help center (help.emergent.sh), and every Greta.sh fact from greta.sh, checked on October 12, 2026.

What Is Emergent?

Emergent is an AI app builder (its site footer reads "Emergentlabs"). You describe an app in a chat, and Emergent's agents write the code, run tests and publish the app. Its help center lists authentication, a built-in MongoDB database, AI integrations and custom domains as built-in capabilities, and mobile apps are built with Expo (React Native). It markets an AI agent builder alongside the app builder.

What it handles for you, per its own docs:

  • Full-stack builds with authentication, a database and publishing managed by the platform.
  • Publishing to a free subdomain at your-app-name.emergent.host, or to your own custom domain with SSL issued automatically (custom domains are for web apps, on paid plans).
  • Native mobile apps, including App Store and Google Play builds through Emergent's managed build pipeline; all native builds require a paid plan.
  • GitHub integration on Standard and Pro.

If you searched "emergent ia", "emergent software builder" or "emergent.sh", this is the product: the canonical site is emergent.sh and the docs live at help.emergent.sh.

Emergent Pricing (as of October 2026)

Free$0n/a10Core features; no publishing to production, no custom domains, no GitHub integration
Standard$20/month$17/month100Web and mobile apps, private project hosting, GitHub integration, publishing, custom domains, extra credits for purchase
Pro$200/month$167/month7501M context window, "Ultra thinking", system prompt editing, custom AI agents, high-performance computing, priority support
BusinessCustomCustomCustomRole-based access control, SSO, shared team workspaces, real-time co-editing
EnterpriseCustomCustomCustomAudit logs, user-level credit limits, self-hosted database support, deploy in your own cloud (VPC)

Three details change the real cost:

  • Hosting draws on your credits. Each published app runs on one of five publishing tiers billed as a fixed monthly credit fee: Starter 50, Launch 125, Grow 225, Scale 450 and Elite 1,100 credits a month. Emergent's docs call Starter suitable for prototypes and low traffic, not for production apps under meaningful load, so on Standard one small live app can use half or more of the 100 monthly credits before you build anything new.
  • Credits don't roll over. "Monthly subscription credits do not roll over"; purchased top-up credits never expire.
  • Team workspaces are a Business feature. Any project can add Admins and Members, and they all draw on the owner's credit pool (the Viewer role is Enterprise-only). Shared team workspaces, role-based access control, real-time co-editing and SSO are listed on the custom-priced Business plan.

What Is Greta.sh?

Greta.sh is an AI app builder from Questera: you describe a website, app, dashboard or internal tool, and it builds the design, logic, database and deployment. Its plans, from greta.sh/pricing as of October 2026:

  • Free: 5 credits a day, code viewer.
  • Starter: $5/month welcome offer (normally $20/month), 100 credits a month, code editor, deployment, custom domain setup, web analytics, no watermark.

  • Enterprise: custom credits, SSO and advanced security.

Credits are not the same unit across the two products, so compare what a typical build costs you in practice rather than credit counts.

Where Emergent is stronger

  • Native mobile. If the product is an iOS or Android app, Emergent builds React Native (Expo) apps and produces App Store and Google Play builds on paid plans. Greta.sh's pricing page and docs don't list native app builds or store submission.
  • Bigger AI tier. Pro adds a 1M-token context window, "Ultra thinking", system prompt editing and custom AI agents, aimed at large or agent-heavy builds.
  • GitHub on the entry plan. Emergent includes GitHub integration from Standard ($20/month); Greta.sh puts GitHub on Pro.

Where Greta.sh is stronger

  • Entry price. Greta.sh's Starter is a $5/month welcome offer (normally $20/month) for 100 credits, and its pricing page lists no per-app hosting charge. On Emergent Standard, one live app on the smallest hosting tier takes 50 of your 100 monthly credits.
  • Read-only seats for reviewers. Greta.sh's Team feature on Pro gives each project an Owner who can invite Editors and Viewers, hand editing control to one Editor at a time and take it back, with all credits billed to the Owner. Emergent's project roles are Admin and Member, and its read-only Viewer role is Enterprise-only.
  • Growth after launch. Greta.sh's self-growing website approach keeps tuning a published site for search and AI answers. Emergent's pricing page doesn't list anything similar.

Which AI App Building Platforms Offer the Best Value for Startups?

Value depends on what you are building and how many apps you keep live. A few rules of thumb from the published pricing:

  • One web product, small team, tight budget: Greta.sh Starter (welcome offer $5/month, normally $20/month) or Pro (welcome offer $20/month, normally $50/month) once you need a database, GitHub and teammates.
  • A native mobile app: Emergent Standard ($20/month) is the entry point; native builds need a paid plan.
  • Several live apps at once: watch per-app hosting charges. On Emergent, every published app draws a monthly tier fee, from 50 credits upward.
  • Heavy agentic builds with long context: Emergent Pro ($200/month) is built for that.

What Is the Best AI App Builder for Product Managers?

For a product manager, the job is usually a working prototype or internal tool that engineers and stakeholders can click through, without waiting for a sprint. Both tools build a full-stack app from a description. Greta.sh's Pro plan adds team roles so a PM can own the project and hand editing to a teammate, and its product team page covers that use case. Emergent suits a PM whose prototype has to be a native mobile app. Either way, check that the plan you choose includes GitHub if engineering will take the code over later (Standard on Emergent, Pro on Greta.sh).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Emergent (emergent.sh)?

Emergent is an AI app builder: you describe an app in natural language, and its agents write the code, test it and publish full-stack web apps and native mobile apps. Its site footer reads "Emergentlabs", its canonical site is emergent.sh, and its docs are at help.emergent.sh.

How much does Emergent cost?

As of October 2026: Free ($0, 10 credits a month), Standard ($20/month or $17/month billed annually, 100 credits), Pro ($200/month or $167/month billed annually, 750 credits), and custom-priced Business and Enterprise plans. Each published app pays a monthly hosting tier fee of 50 to 1,100 credits, and monthly credits don't roll over.

Can Emergent export code to GitHub?

Emergent's pricing page lists GitHub integration on Standard and Pro. It isn't listed on the free plan.

Is Greta.sh cheaper than Emergent?

At the entry level, yes while the welcome offer runs: Greta.sh Starter is $5/month (normally $20/month) for 100 credits, against $20/month for 100 credits on Emergent Standard. At list price the entry plans cost the same, but Emergent also charges every published app a monthly hosting fee of at least 50 credits. Credits are different units on each platform, so compare on a real build.

How does an AI-built project management app compare to hiring a developer for solo builders?

For a solo builder, an AI app builder gets a working project management app (tasks, boards, roles) in front of users in days for the price of a monthly plan, and you can change it yourself by describing the change. A developer costs more up front but gives you judgment on architecture, security and edge cases that a template or generator won't apply on its own. One middle path is to build the first version with an AI builder, keep the code in GitHub, and hire a developer for a review before you put customer data in it. Our guide to what it costs to build an app in 2026 breaks down the options.

Does Emergent support team collaboration?

Yes, at project level: an owner can invite Admins and Members to a project, and everyone's usage draws on the owner's credit pool; a read-only Viewer role is Enterprise-only. Shared team workspaces, real-time co-editing, role-based access control and SSO are on the custom-priced Business plan.

Can Greta.sh build mobile apps?

Greta.sh builds websites and full-stack web apps that work in a phone's browser. Its pricing page and docs don't list native iOS or Android builds or app store submission, so if a native mobile app is the requirement, Emergent's mobile builds (paid plans) are built for that.
